Ever tried designing a mobile app without icons? Yeah… turns out those little things are kind of a big deal.

Knowing that, the Vexels team designed a free pack of flat icons (AI, PNG, and SVG files included in the ZIP file) that’ll fast-track your next app design.

We love the rounded corners and bright colors.

Here’s what’s illustrated in the freebie pack

  • Paper
  • Compass
  • Game controller
  • Microphone
  • Social media icons
  • Camera
  • Lock
  • Upload
  • Download
  • Sound levels
  • File
  • Letter and envelope
  • …and more!

There’s definitely no shortage of free icons for product design on the internet, but we rarely stop to think about the fact that real, live humans made them. We wanted to learn more about the team behind these icons, so we asked Vexels a few questions.

What’s the first thing you do when designing a set of icons?

Vexels: Looking for inspiration is the very first thing we do—specifically on different concepts and design styles. After that, we start sketching on paper to try out a few ideas and see what works. When a sketch is good enough, we use Illustrator to bring it to life.

How do you see designers using these icons?

We mainly create these types of freebies for students to experiment with, and for more experienced designers to fast track a project or try a certain design style quickly. We like to think we’re doing our part in helping the design community.

Every designer at Vexels has at some point relied on the community when looking for inspiration and researching new trends, so we feel it’s only fair to give back content that can help others at different point in their careers.

Any advice for designers who’d like to get started with making icons?

Practice, practice, practice. Get to know the software you’re using, your skills, and your style. Icons are a reflection of who you are as a designerTwitter Logo as much as a flyer or an artistic poster is.

As a general rule, icons have to work great as an abstraction from the chosen concept and within the other icons on the set.

We also try to make sure the designs work well on different sizes, and we stay up to date with the latest trends.
